Description This plaque was awarded to Mary A. Stapp in 1940 for her extracurricular activities at Anacortes High School in Girls Athletic Club, Girls Club President, Choir, and Drama. She went on to graduate from the University of Washington and received her Master of Education from New York University. She taught at Florida State University and in Pasadena, California, before returning to Guemes Island. She was the physical education teacher for girls at Anacortes High School from 1955 to 1978 and spent her summers operating a summer camp for girls on Lake Sixteen. In retirement Miss Stapp volunteered at Skagit Valley Hospital and was a leader in the Audubon Society. She was a charter member of Art Wood in Fairhaven, Bellingham, and an avid fan of the Huskies, Seahawks, and Sonics. Born on January 12, 1922, in Anacortes, she died July 4, 2005 while preparing for holiday festivities on North Beach, Guemes Island.
