Object Name Sidewalk
Description Old sidewalk section from the NE corner of 9th Street and N Avenue. Stamp in concrete identifies the contractor and date of 1909: "L. C. HALL & CO., 1909, CONTRACTOR" L. C. Hall was the contractor for the improvement of Commercial Avenue in 1909 and also the contractor for this section of 9th Street at N Avenue.

Article in the ANACORTES AMERICAN dated October 28, 1909:"IMPROVEMENTS CITY STREETS The Ninth street improvement is well under way, the grade fill having been completed nearly to Commercial avenue. The grading for the laying of sidewalks on Seventh street was begun Monday. The contractors are anxious to complete the filling before rainy weasther sets in. The fill around the library building on Eighth street is about half finished. Enough work has been done to show that the library when surrounded by a lawn at street will be a mighty handsone spot." November 11, 1909 article reads: "COMMERCIAL AVENUE WORK BEGINS SOON: Contractor Declare That Active Operations Will Be Commence Within Two Weeks. Mr. L. C. Hall of the contracting firm of Hall & Company stated Tuesday that work on the Commercial avenue imporvement would positively be begun within two weeks. "I am placing the time limit at two weeks," said Mr. Hall. "As a maatter of fact, I believe that we shall be able to begin operations before two weeks. Just as soon as the necessary papers are signed up and we have secured a crew of workingmen, the job will be begun." In respnse to the question as to how long it would take to complete the work, Mr. Hall answered that until they knew more definitely as to the sources from which they would get the dirt for the fill he was unable to say."
